Moments of cuteness, moments of confusion, moments of frustration and moments of “WHAT THE HECK!?!” are what this week’s episode of Someone Like You is all about which means we’ve got plenty to talk about. Are you ready for this? Then let’s go!
We left off last week with Zhan Cheng’s family freaking out about Yu Xi’s uncanny resemblance to Luo Han and I’m happy to say, we were spared any major family drama there. Whether Zhan Cheng’s family is really okay with his new caretaker remains to be seen but for now that’s not the issue. What really matters is finding out what Zhan Cheng is going to do, now that he knows Yu Xi and Luo Han could pass for twins. Lucky for us, we don’t have to guess on this one. Not two minutes into this week’s episode Zhan Cheng and Yu Xi are having a good old-fashioned heart-to-heart about this very topic and I absolutely loved the way they made this uncanny similarity a total non-issue. Yu Xi straight up tells Zhan Cheng that she’s not anyone’s replacement, no matter how similar they may seem and I wanted to give her a hearty high-five the moment she said, “Chen Yu Xi is Chen Yu Xi alone”. What made this whole scene even better was Zhan Cheng’s response. He tells Yu Xi that despite the fact he kept her around because her voice reminded him of Luo Han, he doesn’t see her as a replacement in any way. The fact that Zhan Cheng has never seen Yu Xi as Luo Han makes me very happy because it means that whatever happens between these two, it’s going happen because they see each other for who they truly are, not who they faintly resemble.
As for who these two really are… The true character of both Yu Xi and Zhan Cheng is slowly being revealed and I have to say, I’m absolutely loving them. Especially Zhan Cheng. Who knew that behind such a gruff exterior lay such a sweetheart? I mean we had a tiny glimpse of Zhan Cheng’s sweetness when he was with Luo Han but those few brief moments weren’t enough to do justice to Zhan Cheng’s tender-hearted nature. Now that he’s spending his time Yu Xi, we’re beginning to see that there’s so much more to this man than the cold front he’s put up. There were so many moments this week when Zhan Cheng’s true character really shined and I’ll freely admit, these moments are doing a number on my heart. The fact that he can converse so openly with Yu Xi about anything and everything is enough, in and of itself, to make my heart flutter but that’s only the beginning. There’s so much sweetness in Zhan Cheng’s personality, it’s no wonder I find myself falling for him. I love that he’s becoming sensitive to Yu Xi’s moods, so much so he can tell when she’s happy, or sad, or excited, or frustrated. But what I love even more is that he’s beginning to take it upon himself to care for Yu Xi, not just when she’s sick or hurt but when she’s feeling down or is upset about something. Taking her out on that boat, just so she could watch the meteor shower was so sweet. Jumping into the water to “rescue” her was stupid but his heart was in the right place and he made up for it by taking care of Yu Xi when she was sick. *sigh*
I think what I love most about this relationship between Yu Xi and Zhan Cheng is that it feels completely natural. It’s not rushed, it’s not forced. It’s simply the result of two people spending time together, really getting to know each other and coming to find they enjoy each other’s company. I know that neither of them are at a place where they’re willing to admit they have feelings for each other… Actually, I’m don’t think either of them really do have feelings for each other but they do have a mutual like and respect for each other and they do genuinely care for each other, not romantically but as friends, and that is the basis for a wonderful relationship.
However, there seems to be an awful lot of competition when it comes to winning Zhan Cheng’s heart. I know Yu Xi isn’t actually competing (yet) but between her and Zhan Cheng’s stepsister and Vanessa and this new cookie baking girl… There are just too many women vying for this man’s attention. If you add to this the fact that Zhan Cheng still holds Luo Han in his heart, we’ve got five different women all competing for this one man’s heart and that just seems like way too many to me. What in the world is this poor man going to do when he’s got so many women to choose from? I know that at the moment there’s only room for Luo Han in his heart but we all know that’s going to change at some point. My question is, how painful are things going to get before he decides which woman he’s actually come to love? You know deciding on a woman isn’t going to be easy because we’ve got one woman with Luo Han’s voice (and face) and another with Luo Han’s organs, and therefore all of her inherited attributes (because it totally makes sense that when you get an organ transplant you automatically gain all of your donor’s good points *yes folks, that’s sarcasm*). I don’t see the stepsister or Vanessa being a possible contender when it comes to matters of the heart but that doesn’t mean they won’t cause problems along the way. After all, “Love hath no fury like a woman scorned”.
While we wait for this complicated love pentagon (that is what you’d call this, right???) to work itself out, we’ve got a rather curious mystery to solve. The case of the missing sister is certainly causing me to scratch my head. I really can’t figure out if Luo Han is Yu Xi’s twin and if she is, was Yu Xi the one that was adopted or was Luo Han given up for adoption? The way Yu Xi’s mom answered her questions was so ridiculously confusing and complicated, I couldn’t figure anything out. I know Mama’s hiding something but what? I guess I’m going to have to content myself with the old, “I’ll have to wait and see” but that bugs me to no end! Why can’t I have my answers now!?! (Okay, okay, I’ll stop whining.)
I have a horrible feeling next week’s episode is going to be a complicated one, especially once baker girl makes her official appearance, but I could be wrong. I wouldn’t mind if we had another few episodes filled with all the cute of this one but I’m not going to get my hopes up too much… There’s still way too much of this drama left and way too many people poised to make life difficult for Yu Xi and Zhan Cheng. (I’m looking at you sleazy boyfriend!) While I revel in this week’s moments of sweetness, I’d love nothing better than to hear your thoughts on this week’s episode so be sure to let me know what you’re thinking by leaving me a comment below!
You can catch up on all of my reviews of Someone Like You here:
Well, what else can I say? I’m just hook: story pacing, acting, chemistry and visuals, are still spot on. Though I’ll admit, I was really so pissed with the situation with that d-bag “baby”, and my irritation carried over to Yu Xi. And you should know how much I like Rong Rong’s Yu Xi, but so pissed with her there. I know it’s not “drama” realistic , but I need for her to severe that relationship or just not let it affect ZC (her work), even unwittingly. And with regards to the Mom-Yu Xi backstory, I’m kinda surprised that I’m finding it hard to guess the details. Though I’m thinking that she’s not the biological mother of the twins, but how she got one with her, I’m not particularly sure.
Thanks for the review, by the way!
You’re welcome! ^^ I think you’re totally right about Yu Xi and “baby”. She needs to drop him like a bad habit. That man is nothing but trouble and the sooner she realizes it, the better. I’m afraid he’s going to use this relationship to hurt ZC and that kills me. I’m surprised by the mom/Yu Xi story as well. I can usually figure these things out but this one has me stumped. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see where things go from here.
Thanks for doing the review. I’m enjoying the drama as well. Love both the leads. I really hope the show won’t do the melo/angst too much with the appearance of the baker girl. I feel bad saying that I dislike her already even seeing her in the preview. She seems like a gentle but subtle manipulative kind.
Yeah, I’m not really thrilled about the appearance of this baker girl either. I see a whole lot of drama coming on with her appearance and I’m not sure I’m ready to deal with that just yet. I’m still enjoying the chemistry between Yu Xi and Zhan Cheng. I don’t want more people coming between these two. Oh well, since nothing has happened yet, I don’t really have room to complain. We’ll just have to wait and see what happens, I guess.
