Why is it that whenever things in Dramaland finally start to go right, something or someone has to step in and ruin everything? It’s like the Dramaland gods can’t stand to see people happy for long so they have to throw a giant monkey wrench at the main characters’ heads, just because they can, which is exactly what happened in this week’s episodes of Angel Eyes. (Grrrr!)
So last week’s happy ending should have been a major tip-off that things this week would eventually fall apart but I was so caught up in the happy, “I’ve got Father’s approval” moment that I didn’t even stop to think that tragedy was only an episode away. (Silly me!) I’ll blame my momentary loss of wits on the look on Dong Joo’s face, when Yoon Jae Beom finally gave his blessing to him and Soo Wan. Dong Joo was so happy and the expression on his face was so adorable that I instantly forgot the entire world and was completely caught up in the moment when he shared his news and elation with Soo Wan. After so many years of pain and separation, Dong Joo and Soo Wan have finally found their “home” in each other and I was so, so happy for them, I nearly cried.
While I could keep my tears in check at the beginning of this week’s episodes, I pretty much lost it somewhere in the middle. I’m sorry but Dong Joo’s proposal was so sweet, I couldn’t help but go all mushy for a little while. (I guess I have a soft spot for overwhelming sentimentality… Who knew?) There was no doubt Soo Wan would accept Dong Joo’s proposal, these two have been destined to be together since the beginning of time, but the moment she accepted, I knew something bad would soon follow. Unfortunately, I was right.
Enter Dr. Choi, the nasty puppet of Dr. Oh, who apparently delights in inflicting pain and heartbreak on innocent people. (Jerk.) If you ask me, Dr. Choi was way too happy to tell Dong Joo about Yoon Jae Beom’s role in the death of Yoo Jung Hwa. I can’t really figure out why Dr. Choi is so dead-set on ruining Dr. Yoon. I mean he already has the upper-hand and has been blackmailing Jae Beom for quite a while so why does he have to go so far as to torment Dr. Yoon and bring heartache to Dong Joo? What has Dr. Oh promised him that makes him so giddy to be the bearer of bad news? Is his position in the hospital pharmacy really worth so much or does he simply enjoy being cruel? I’m fairly convinced Dr. Choi is just a nasty piece of work but that’s just me. Maybe there’s actually more to him that what I’ve seen so far… I suppose anything is possible, right?
I have to say, I was fairly pleased with the way Dong Joo handled the news that Jae Beom was directly responsible for Jung Hwa’s death. Finding out your surrogate father was the man who murdered your mother couldn’t have been easy and yet Dong Joo only disappeared for half an episode and he has yet to push Soo Wan away, which totally surprised me as that seems to be the normal Dramaland reaction to news of this caliber. What I found even more surprising was Dong Joo’s acceptance of this “truth” (and I use the term lightly there because I’m pretty sure there’s another version of the truth out there that Dr. Oh is trying very much to keep hidden). Despite the fact that he’s completely heart-broken, Dong Joo is willing to overlook Jae Beom’s role in his mother’s death and spend the rest of his life pretending that it never happened. Talk about taking the high road! I suppose this proves just how much Jae Beom means to Dong Joo. No matter how awful Jae Beom’s actions towards Jung Hwa were, the truth is, Jae Beom stepped into Dong Joo’s life at the moment he needed a parental figure most and Dong Joo is going to spend the rest of his life feeling grateful to Jae Beom for that. I’m sure life is going to be more difficult for Dong Joo now but he’s willing to accept that responsibility and bare the weight of this heavy burden alone as he’s very well aware that this news would absolutely destroy Soo Wan, were she ever to learn of it.
I suppose that if Dr. Oh wanted to get really nasty, she could tell Dr. Choi to spill the beans to Soo Wan as well but I’m not sure that Dr. Oh’s willing to go that far… At least not yet. Perhaps in another episode or two, Dr. Oh will become so desperate that she’ll sink to that sort of low but for now, Soo Wan is “safe.” Sadly, I’m pretty sure Soo Wan is going to learn the whole truth about Jung Hwa before the end and there’s going to be a whole lot more drama when that time comes. I’m just hoping that, when the time comes, Soo Wan will turn towards Dong Joo for the support she needs, rather than try to push him away. I think time has proven that these two need each other more than they need anything or anyone else in this world and the only way they’re going to get through the rough times ahead is to lean on each other.
Of course these are all just my rambling thoughts, ideas and theories… I’m sure you have your own and I’d love to hear them so be sure to leave me a comment below!
Oh! And on a completely different and totally random side-note… Did anyone else crack up at this part…
…or was that just me? Hahahahaha! (Sorry! Fangirl moment…)
