I find myself wondering how can I even begin to write about this week’s “Tune” without making a total fangirl mess of myself. I really don’t think it’s possible so you’re just gonna have to bear with me as I squee myself silly over VIXX. Again.
Starlights the world over know VIXX has been teasing fans mercilessly for what felt like ages, releasing photos and concept videos and all kinds of amazingly gorgeous and wonderful forms of torture as we anxiously awaited the release of the group’s 5th single album, Zelos. I have to admit that personally, the wait for this comeback was brutal so when “Dynamite” was finally released, earlier this week, I kinda had a complete fangirl meltdown. (As in I squeed my way through the entire MV while my family just rolled their eyes and went about their business. Can you believe that?)
After watching the “Dynamite” MV more times than I can count, I can say with absolute certainty that I LOVE THIS SONG! The up-tempo beat paired with the brooding, yet sexy lyrics works so well together! I honestly don’t know how VIXX manages to pair up-beat and sexy brooding so well but they do and it’s wonderful! They’re wonderful! This song is wonderful! Everything is wonderful! (Okay, okay, I’ll calm down now.)
As far as the video goes, I really like it. The use of color and boxes gives it a very SM vibe but I’m okay with that because for whatever reason, it works. Think: NCT U’s “The 7th Sense” meets EXO’s “Overdose” in an alternate “Chained Up” universe. Maybe that analogy seems a bit crazy and completely out there but in my zombie brain, it’s what comes to mind every time I watch this MV and for some reason it makes me very happy.

I know we don’t get to see a lot of choreo in the MV but even the small glimpses we do get are enough to make it obvious this dance was designed to kill. I’m sure seeing this choreography in its entirety (without the spazzy camera work of a music show) will probably stop my heart but I don’t care. I want to watch this choreo from start to finish at least once and then I can die a happy, happy fangirl. I’m sure I’m not the only Starlight out there praying for the release of a good dance practice video.
The best part of this comeback is having a new album to love. I know Zelos is only a 3-track album but it’s so good! The harmonies in “Six Feet Under” are classic VIXX and Leo’s vocals… Ugh! I just can’t with that boy! And then there’s “손의이별” which, the first time I listened to it, completely melted my heart. It’s such a beautiful ballad and it so wonderfully highlights VIXX’s vocal talent… I don’t know how anyone could not love it.
Obviously I’m very much in love with “Dynamite,” Zelos and VIXX in general, but I wanna know what you think. Do you like the song? What do you think of the MV?
