Once again, this past week has been a bit light on the K-Pop comebacks and debuts which is understandable, given the circumstance. While some may moan about the lack of new music, I’ve decided to embrace this slight hiatus as a way to highlight some of the awesome music that was sadly overlooked in the massive flood of K-Pop comebacks and debuts that we were blessed with earlier this year. For this week’s featured tune I’ve decided to focus my attention on a little-known hip-hop trio, known humbly as UglyPumpkin, who debuted in March with the totally adorable single “From Yesterday.”
If you’re unfamiliar with UglyPumpkin you’re probably not alone. Consisting of a single vocalist, Omtae, and two rappers, Shahgoon and Wormboy, UglyPumpkin is a unique hip-hop trio that I immediately fell in love with, for no other reason than their debut song “From Yesterday” was just so darn cute! The second I stumbled upon “From Yesterday” on YouTube, last month, I had to immediately add it to my playlist, I loved it that much and all you have to do is watch it for yourself to understand why…
Now isn’t that the most adorable, feel-good song you’ve ever heard? I just love it! It’s sweet, it’s catchy and I honestly can’t listen to this song without breaking into a cheesy grin just because it makes me feel that good. And why shouldn’t it? Is there anything more adorable than three cuties singing about their crush on a girl they fell for just yesterday, or maybe it was the day before yesterday? I really can’t think of much… (Well, okay, maybe VIXX’s Leo snuggling babies and puppies but really that’s just about the only thing I can think of that would top this abundance of cuteness!)
If there’s one thing I love about K-Pop, it’s the diversity that comes with it. You can literally find a song to match any and every mood and though there are times when I love the bright, loud and crazy, there are other times when I prefer something a bit more mellow and UglyPumpkin’s “From Yesterday” has become a favorite of mine for the times when I just want to chill for a couple of minutes and smile. They’re like a breath of fresh air for me, as every time I watch this MV, I feel refreshed and uplifted and I have to admit, I like that a lot. So if you’re looking for a light-hearted and catchy new song to add to your playlist, why not give UglyPumpkin’s “From Yesterday” a try? I can almost guarantee you won’t be disappointed.
