TUNE OF THE WEEK: SPICA “Ghost”

title

If you’ve been reading this blog for any length of time, you know that girl bands aren’t really my thing, so when one captures my attention enough to have me feature it as my “Tune of the Week” you know that song has got to be good.

SPICA made a “digital comeback” this week with the bittersweet rock ballad “Ghost”. A song that perfectly describes the pain of trying to erase the memories of a lost love, “Ghost” is everything you could possibly want in such a song. The vocal strength of SPICA really shines in this emotional and powerful ballad and I think that’s why I love it so much. When a talented group of singers gets the chance to forego the flashy concepts and focus solely on their music it makes me happy and SPICA’S “Ghost” has made me very happy.

As for the video, I like it for its simplicity because again, the music gets the chance to shine without being overshadowed by all of the usual K-Pop theatrics. Sometimes simple is best and I think “Ghost” is a perfect example of that. (VIXX’s “Only U” and Kim Jin Ho’s “People” also come to mind, but I digress…)

After seeing SPICA at KCON this past summer, I’ve developed a greater appreciation for them as artists. They really are a group of incredibly talented singers and I’m happy they chose to make this mini-comeback with a song that highlights their greatest strength. I may not be persuaded to add my name to the list of MERCURY just yet but “Ghost” has landed SPICA on the very small list of girl groups I actually like. (Hey, it’s all about the baby steps.)

So what do you think of SPICA’s latest release? Are you a fan of “Ghost” or were you hoping for something different? I always love hearing what you have to say so be sure to let me know what you’re thinking by leaving me a comment below!
