Oh gracious! I’ve been anxiously awaiting the release of this week’s “Tune” ever since KNK started teasing us with photos last week and now that it’s here… Well, I’m still not sure the fangirl in me has calmed down enough to attempt to write about “Back Again” but I’m gonna give it a shot anyway. We’ll see how this goes…
I’m sure some of you remember the slight fangirl meltdown I had when KNK made their debut back in February. They took me completely by surprise with “Knock.” I fell instantly in love with their music which, of course, inevitably led me to add certain members to my bias list… *cough*Youjin*cough*
Since their debut, I’ve been keeping an eye on them, in part because I love watching dorky boys be dumb and KNK TV makes me laugh… (OMG! THE BIRTHDAY CAKE!!! *giggles madly*) and in part because a couple of my friend are HUGE KNK fans and we end up squeeing over them on almost a daily basis. (I know, me squeeing… That’s just so hard to imagine!) Knowing so much more about them now, than I did when they first debuted, I was really looking forward to this comeback. The teaser photos made me wonder if they were going to abandon the brooding concept they’d debuted with and go with something a bit brighter for the summer. It was an intriguing thought and one that drove my curiosity mad as I waited for this comeback.
Now that it’s here, I can say, with absolute certainty, that Youjin will be the death of me.
Oh. No. Wait. I’m supposed to be talking about the song, not the boys… Sorry about that! I kinda got distracted.
Okay… Back (to the music) Again. (I know, I know! Lame joke! Sorry! I just couldn’t resist the pun!)
While not as peppy as I’d originally anticipated, “Back Again” is still a solid track and one I’m very much enjoying. I love that it still has that original brooding KNK vibe, but it’s up-tempo enough to keep it from becoming an overly depressing track, despite the fact the lyrics are all about as depressing as they come. The ability to mix melancholy with a tempo that still makes you wanna dance is an impressive one and it’s actually one of my favorite elements of pop music in general. I love that you can sing and dance your blues away without feeling like you need to go throw yourself off the top of a building.
As far as the MV goes, it reminds me very much of “Knock,” which isn’t a bad thing. I think the similarities between the two videos allow KNK to better establish themselves and their style, which is great as it gives fans such as myself, who love the darker feel of these MVs, even more to swoon over! (Hello fangirl!) Every time I watch a KNK video, I can’t help but pick up on a rather VIXX-ish vibe, which may be part of the reason why I love them so much. There’s just something about a group that can really work the darker, brooding concepts… They get to me in ways I can’t explain and I inevitably fall head-over-heels for them. (Surprise! Surprise!)
If you haven’t had a chance to check out “Back Again” yet, you should. Actually, you should check out the entire Awake EP because it’s full of all kinds of KNK goodness and let’s face it, you can never have too much KNK! They just make life better! Obviously I’m more than a little biased here so I want to know what you think of KNK’s latest release. Will “Back Again” be making it onto your K-Pop playlist? Let me know in the comments below!
Gotta admit, I’ve been on a k-everything hiatus so I haven’t seen any KNK until this post. But…as a big fan of VIXX, you have piqued my interest. I just may scope out a video…or two. Lol
I would definitely recommend checking them out. I know I’m not the only one who’s fallen for them since their debut. They’re very good a stealing fangirls’ hearts. lol
