TUNE OF THE WEEK: Kim Sung Kyu and Monsta X

collage 1

You know, some days it’s really ridiculously difficult to pick just one song to be my Tune of the Week which is why, this week, I’ve chosen two different songs to feature. Why two, you may ask? Because I’ve been deliberating between these two for so stinking long, without coming to any sort of conclusion, and I’ve got more to do today than sit here and agonize over the fact I can only pick one! It’s my website, darn it! I can do what I want! So… This week’s I’m featuring both Sung Kyu’s “Kontrol” and Monsta X’s “Trespass” as my Tunes of the Week.

Originally I was just going to write about Sung Kyu’s latest solo release because his voice is so flipping amazing, it gives me chills every time I listen to him sing. Kontrol 2His new release is absolutely amazing and I had a very hard time deciding between “Kontrol” and “너여야만 해” for this post. Ultimately “Kontrol” won out but only because the MV tugged on my heartstrings in the worst way possible. (Or maybe the best way???) It’s such a touching video and Sung Kyu’s voice is just… Just… *siiiigggghhhh* (Yeah, sorry for the lack of words. Sometimes a good sigh expresses more than words ever could.) Kontrol 3I honestly can’t watch the video for “Kontrol” with getting chills and being moved to tears, all at the same time. It’s this powerful play on my emotions that had me convinced I was going to feature Sung Kyu in this week’s Tune post but then Monsta X came along and well…

I have a very good a lot friend who’s been squeeing over Monsta X for ages and she’s done a very good job of piquing my interest in them so of course, when they debuted I had to check them out. group 1Boy, am I glad I did! While I can’t say the video for “Trespass” is completely original, it’s still a lot of fun to watch (I’m a particular fan of the acrobatic parkour-esq moves and who doesn’t love a little tummy flash reminiscent of Jimin’s “No More Dream” days???) and the song is great. I’m quite addicted to Monsta X at the moment and I’m really looking forward to see what they have in store for us in the future. Honestly, is there anything better than a debut that has you begging for more?

group 2So tell me, between these two songs, which one did you like best? Was deciding between them as difficult for you as it was for me or am I just being a crazy fangirl? You know I always love hearing from you so be sure to let me know what you’re thinking by leaving me a comment below!

  1. Your very good friend has very good taste in rookie groups! I love Monsta X and I can’t wait to get their CD(s) in the mail. Yes, I ordered a few to help the boys out! haha. And I worship at the Church of Sungkyu so I loved his two new releases. I look forward to listening to his CD all summer. His 1st solo CD is still on replay in my iPod.

    1. My very good friend has exceptional taste in rookie groups! Then again, she just has exceptional taste in general. I mean she has me for a friend… HAHAHAHAHA! (Okay, that was uncalled for. Sorry.) I’ll stop talking and just go back to squeeing over these two new releases. I’m quite enamored with Monsta X at the moment and I can’t wait to learn more about them *hint hint* and how can you not love Sungkyu? I can’t wait to add both of these albums to my playlist. (Why must payday be so far away!?!)
