Being one of many eagerly anticipating Jonghyun’s solo debut, I was pretty sure I’d be considering “Crazy” for this week’s featured tune but once the MV was released and I was finally able to give it a listen, there was no doubt in my mind… I had to make “Crazy” my Tune of the Week.
“Crazy” is exactly the type of song that drives me absolutely crazy. The track is so smooth, with a touch of punk, funk pop, a whole lot of soul and oh holy flip! I’m in love! Seriously, I haven’t been able to stop listening to this song since I first watched the MV this morning and the more I listen to it, the more I love it. Jonghyun’s voice is so alluring it fits the song perfectly but it’s his falsetto that melts my heart and turns my knees to jelly. Of course the appearance of Iron at the half-way point doesn’t hurt anything, his rapping is every bit as smooth as Jonghyun’s singing and together they’ve created a song definitely worth swooning over.
If the song had been released without a video, I’d still be a happy fangirl and I’d still be squeeing over Jonghyun’s solo debut but the fact that this song comes with a video that has totally demolished my inner fangirl, well… so much the better! This video is every bit as wonderful as the teasers made it out to be and I can’t watch this video without dying, it’s just so pretty. The lighting, the use of color, the imagery, the gorgeous immortal being masquerading as a K-Pop idol… It’s all brought together in this one gorgeous video and yeah… I… I…
Sorry, I’m easily distracted by pretty things.
I don’t know what it is about the boys of SHINee and their solo debuts but I’m loving them a whole flipping lot. Perhaps it’s the way the boys are being allowed to express themselves as individuals, rather than as a group… Maybe it’s the way SM has decided it’s okay to try to kill fangirls the world over by showing us a more mature and ridiculously sexy side of these boys… I’m not really sure but whatever the reason, I’m wholeheartedly supporting each and every one of these boys as they begin their solo adventures and I look forward to seeing what they have in store for us in the future. I think I’ll start by watching this video another couple thousand times as I impatiently wait for Jonghyun’s entire mini album, BASE, to drop on January 12. Ugh! Why does four days feel so far away???
So tell me, what do you think of Jonghyun’s debut as a solo artist? Are you loving “Crazy” as much as I am or is it not really your cup of tea? I always love hearing your thoughts so be sure to let me a comment below!
