Okay, so I know it’s been about a million years since I last let my inner fangirl out to squeal over a new K-Pop release; mostly because my head is stupid and looking at a computer screen for any amount of time kinda makes me want to rip it off. Despite all that head-ripping off, I feel it’s time to let my long-contained fangirl run free, at least long enough to squeal her little heart out over JBJ’s newest MV release, “My Flower.”
It’s kinda funny that a rookie group, of all things, would be the ones to draw me back into the world of squealing. (I mean, it’s not like we haven’t had our fair share of amazing veteran comebacks this month. *cough* INFINITE *cough*) But there’s something about this group of adorable sunshiny munchkins that I just can’t seem to ignore. Releasing their second mini-album, True Colors, last week, JBJ has proven to me they’re a group deserving my attention and who am I to deny them that?
Full of sunshine and cuteness, “My Flower” (꽃이야) is definitely a track worth checking out. It’s catchy as heck, the lyrics are as cute as can be, and really, it’s just an unexpected breath of fresh air. Listening to this track is the aural equivalent of throwing open the windows on that first warm day of spring and letting that sweet breeze blow away all of winter’s stuffiness; which is probably why I love this new MV so much. It’s just so bright and cheery and absolutely the perfect pick-me-up for what has been the most unbearably drab and depressing January I’ve experienced in a long time. I mean how can you resist those smiles and little flower wiggles? Gah! The cuteness is overwhelming!
For those of you unfamiliar with JBJ, allow me to give you a quick introduction. This group of 6 is one of several fan project groups to spawn from Produce 101, Season 2 and consists of Taehyun (태현) (as in the very same Taehyun from Hotshot), Kenta (켄타), Sanggyun (상균) (and yes, this is the same Sanggyun (aka A-Tom) from Topp Dogg), Longguo (용국) (the same Longguo who makes up one half of Longguo & Shihyun), Hyunbin (현빈), and Donghan (동한). They made their official debut as a group in October of last year (2017) with their first mini-album, Fantasy, and OH MY GOSH! If you haven’t given at least that title track a listen, you need to! Personally, I’m falling more in love with JBJ every day. They’re such a dangerous mix of lethal cuteness I know I should probably stay away but I also know that’s never going to happen. They’ve become my fix of sunshine this winter and I love them even more for that. Besides, it’s not like my bias list is in any sort of jeopardy. I mean, you can’t ruin something that’s already in shambles… ㅋㅋㅋ
