TUNE OF THE WEEK: B.A.P “1004”

With the release of B.A.P’s first official album, First Sensibility, it should come as no surprise that “1004” wins this week’s Tune of the Week spotlight.

7Being a BABY myself, I’ve been dying to get my hands on First Sensibility since I first learned of its release and now that it’s here, I can’t put it down and “1004” is one of the reasons why. In true B.A.P fashion, “1004” is as intense lyrically as it is musically and the MV, well, let’s just say B.A.P has done it again. 3The range of emotions that “1004” invokes is powerful on its own but when you combine them with images of each and every member of B.A.P struggling with the pain of a recent breakup and shedding bitter tears, as a BABY, you feel like your heart is being ripped out of your chest. The problem only gets worse as you watch Himchan (who really shines in this MV) pull out a gun and struggle with the idea of ending it all over the loss of his love.

6I suppose that’s my only qualm with an otherwise flawless MV. I would have preferred to see Himchan find some other way to deal with his pain than to resort to a gun because really, that’s just ridiculous. I understand that B.A.P has a thing for guns in their MVs (“One Shot” is one of my favorites). I understand that using a gun demonstrates just how desperate Himchan is to escape the pain he’s feeling at the loss of his love. I also understand that Himchan doesn’t actually shoot himself in this MV, only his reflection in the mirror but we all understand what is going on and I cannot condone a MV that even figuratively suggests that ending your life is a valid answer to anything. Yes, the pain of a breakup hurts like crazy but the truth is, it’s only temporary. 4They don’t say “time heals all wounds” without a reason. As a young person, you have to realize the loss of a girlfriend or boyfriend isn’t the end of the world, even if it feels like it is at the moment. There will be other loves, there will be other breakups and eventually you’ll find that “one;” trust me on this one, I’m old enough to know what I’m talking about! To end your life after one breakup is such a waste. There’s so much more to live for! And now that I’ve thrown that little nugget of noona/unnie wisdom out there, I’ll step off this soap box and move on…

“1004” is everything a BABY could hope for: passionate, powerful and endlessly playable. Seriously, you could listen to “1004” over and over again without ever getting sick of it. Again, trust me on this one, I know!
