TUNE OF THE WEEK: Ailee “Singing Got Better”

This past week has brought with it the release of several new comeback songs by some of K-Pop’s biggest stars (most notably Ailee and Rain) as well as the debut of the new K-Pop boy band, BEAT WIN, so trying to decide which tune to feature has been a bit rough. However, after much research, MV watching and deliberating, Ailee’s powerful new single, “Singing Got Better” is the song that hit me hardest, which is why it wins this week’s music spotlight.

1Like Ailee’s “Heaven,” “Singing Got Better” was written and produced by Wheesung, and like its predecessor,  is the very definition of a K-Pop power ballad, with powerful vocals soaring over a driving, orchestra infused, rock-ballad.   The lyrics to “Singing Got Better” are every bit as powerful as the music behind them, telling the story of a singer who poured her heart and soul into her music after breaking up with her boyfriend. 3Doing what Ailee does best, “Singing Got Better” hits you with an incredible combination of power, beauty and sadness that leaves you with goose-bumps on your arms, a tear in your eye and an insatiable desire for more.

5As powerful as “Singing Got Better” is, the MV is nothing more than your typical girl meets boy/girl leaves boy story but it’s cute for what it is and it features MBLAQ’s Lee Joon, so it’s better than others in this particular genre.

support Ailee 1I think the best part of Ailee’s comeback (aside from the song itself) is the overwhelming amount of support she’s received from both her fans and her fellow K-Pop stars as support Ailee 2she’s stepped back into the spotlight after some rather unsavory pictures of her were spread on the internet last November. INFINITE, After School, VIXX, Secret, A Pink and more have all stepped up to show their support of Ailee during this comeback and I think it’s awesome how they’ve all put aside their respective labels to come together as one, to cheer on Ailee, as one of their own.Support Ailee 3 I know my individual voice probably won’t be heard but for what it’s worth, I’d like to add my support to Ailee to her during this comeback and beyond. Ailee, FIGHTING! If you’d like to add your own words of encouragement to Ailee or just want to talk music, be sure to leave your comments below!
