TUNE OF THE WEEK: 2AM “Days Like Today”

With the release of 2AM’s third full-length album Let’s Talk it only makes sense for me to feature their pre-release single “Days Like Today” as my Tune of the Week.

One of the fourteen tracks on Let’s Talk, “Days Like Today” is a bitter-sweet R&B ballad, composed and produced by Park Jin Young himself and, surprisingly enough, is the first collaboration between 2AM and their CEO in five years. (Can you believe it’s been that long since “This Song” was released? Where has the time gone?) “Days Like Today” is one of those songs I could listen to all day, it’s got such an easy-going tempo and a sweet melody that, for some reason, makes me want to curl up in my favorite comfy chair with a warm blanket and a hot cup of cocoa and just sit and relax and be.

The video for “Days Like Today” features veteran actor, Park Young Ji and I think it’s a perfect video to capture the essence of the song. There’s something sweet and sad about watching a man reminisce over the one he let get away and Park Young Ji does such a fabulous job of conveying all the emotion of a man who can’t help thinking back to the that time in his life when he had his true love by his side. Ugh! Even as I sit here writing about it, I can feel the tug on my heartstrings and it almost makes me want to cry but more in a beautiful “once upon a time” way than a truly sad way. (If that makes any sense at all.)

I really do love both this song and the video and my only complaint would be that there just aren’t enough scenes in the video that feature JoKwon, Seulong, Changmin and Jinwoon. I suppose when you hire an actor the caliber of Park Young Ji for your video, you take full advantage of his skill and you let the boys make their little cameo appearances to whet the fans’ appetite for things yet to come. (Very sneaky, JYP! Very sneaky indeed!) Whether we’ll get another video from 2AM’s new album, Let’s Talk, remains to be seen but I wouldn’t be opposed to one. It’s been almost a year since 2AM dropped any sort of album (remember, Nocturne was released last fall) and I’m more than ready to have them flooding my timelines and filling my YouTube watch list because honestly, I can never get enough of these cute potatoes! (Wait. What?)
