The Zebussie Drama Review: Iron Man Episode 16

Drama Debussie: Another week, another preempted episode. The dramaverse loves doing this to us, doesn’t it? I guess one episode is better than no episode. Especially when it finally starts to explore the things we’ve been waiting so desperately to explore. For example, someone finally asks the question of the century. WHAT THE HELL DOES SE DONG WANT?!

Zombie: Too bad Se Dong doesn’t seem to be willing to answer that question or if she has answered it, too bad she’s not willing to fight for what she wants. I’m sorry but this week I had a real problem cheering for Se Dong and all of her goodness. She’s finally reached the point where she’s become too good and it’s kind of upsetting. I’d rather have Se Dong stand up and fight for what she wants than have her willingly step aside and let Tae Hee take her place. I know she’s trying to do what she thinks is right but come on, Tae Hee gave up her right to keep Hong Bin and Chang by her side when she decided to play dead. She had her chance and blew it and it’s not fair to ask Se Dong to give up the man she loves, just because Tae Hee’s having second thoughts.

DD: It seems that Se Dong is being pushed to fight for what she wants, it’s just taking forever. The truth is, while Tae Hee does still have feelings for Hong Bin and she knows that a life with him and Chang would be preferable, she knows that he doesn’t love her. She also knows that Se Dong is too good of a person for her to decide to reclaim Hong Bin, even if he’s willing to go along with it. Se Dong is so obsessed with not being greedy and desiring the things of others. Well, it seems everything is building toward Se Dong finally having to put her foot down and say what she finally wants, even if every bone in her body has been conditioned to tell her not to do so. Honestly, I’m hoping she does that counselling the doctor told her get. That would help a lot!

Zombie: It really would but it doesn’t look like Se Dong is going to take that advice. She seems to be determined to go about her everyday life, acting as if nothing’s wrong. It’s a pretty typical reaction though it’s not going to help her solve any of her problems. She needs to realize that self-sacrifice is fine but only to a point and you’re right, it does seem like we’re building up to the moment when Se Dong is finally going to have to reveal her heart and tell the world “This is what I want” while at the same time believing that she actually deserves to have what she wants. Call me crazy but I think this is a lot for Se Dong to have to accomplish before the end.

DD: No kidding. I smell an open ending headed our way and I’m not happy about it. Speaking of the ending, for a second there I thought the show as going to stretch out the “Where’s Secretary Ko?” storyline until the very end. Leaving us with the big gaping hole it would have left in our souls, but nope! He came back AND there’s a girl! Now all that’s left is to see her. I mean, we all have to decide if she’s worthy of our Ja Kyung.

Zombie: I’m not sure any woman is worthy of Ja Kyung but we can hope, for his sake, that she is. I was really missing him this week but his absence brought a much-needed “confession” from Hong Bin, so I guess his disappearing was worth it. I just don’t want him wandering off any more. Things just aren’t the same without him.

DD: I just wish it was Tae Hee that wandered off and not Ja Kyung. To be fair, she tried.

Zombie: I really wish Se Dong had just let Tae Hee go. I was wailing “WHY?” when she showed up and stopped Tae Hee from leaving. Things would have been so much better if Tae Hee had just disappeared but I guess that would have been too easy. We must have drama until the final credits roll so she stays. I did have the weirdest thought while I was watching all of this Tae Hee drama unfold, especially after Madame Yoon showed up at Tae Hee’s door and was caught by Jang Won. All this time we’ve been wondering why Madame Yoon has been so obsessed with finding and tormenting Tae Hee and we’ve yet to have an answer. What if Madame Yoon’s secret love-child was actually Tae Hee? See? I told you it was a weird thought and a very disturbing one at that but I can’t figure out why else Madame Yoon would be so obsessed over someone so completely unconnected to her. It just doesn’t make sense.

DD: Madame Yoon is a weird, redder-haired bird, isn’t she? She’s obviously still bitter about what happened with her love child and I can’t exactly blame. No excuse for all of the shady things she’s done. I was so glad when Hong Bin finally confronted her at the end of the episode. It left us with horrible cliff hanger hangover but something pretty exciting to look forward to. I’m sure every weird move she makes is rooted in her obvious love (obsession?) with Jang Won and a larger part of it has to do with her having to send her child away. I was trying to think of the best way to finally ensure she gets her comeuppance and the only thing I can think of is a big ‘ol firing, something only Hong Bin can do. Doesn’t sound like much, but Madame Yoon’s job is her life. Imagine the spiral she’ll be in if she no longer has her job is access to all of the Hong men and their business?

Blade.Man.E16.141106.HDTV.H264.720p-LIMO[13-26-24]

Zombie: That would pretty much be the end of her world and I’d love nothing more than to see that happen. I just can’t understand why she’s been allowed to stay in her position this long. I mean I get that having Jang Won’s kid entitled her to some sort of compensation but I would think that after Jang Won realized she was the one behind Tae Hee’s beating, he’d have found a way to remove her from her position. He could have just told Hong Bin and let him deal with her episodes ago but he didn’t. I guess this way Hong Bin can deal with things on his own and get the closure he needs to solve his own problems. Speaking of which, is it just me or has this show suddenly become more about Se Dong and her problems than Hong Bin and his? I get that she’s a main character and she has issues too, but so much drama has come up lately that Hong Bin has been forced to take a back seat and I’m really wondering what the heck is going to happen to him in the next few episodes. Is he really going to be able to find his answers and solve his problems while Se Dong tries to solve hers? Again, this just seems like a whole lot to cover in the short amount of time we have left.

DD: I’m excited we’re concentrating a little more on Se Dong. There’s so many times we meet a heroine that has this traumatic background, finds a way to stay optimistic through it all, and meets her prince charming (or just a really hot guy). The heroine usually becomes this two-dimensional character that is for the guy’s well being. She’s just there. How is it that we never find out about her complexities or the trauma she’s probably still dealing with? I always found that odd. I think all characters in the dramaverse need help, but particularly the ladies. I would like to see Se Dong get to a point where she doesn’t feel beholden to Hong Bin or anyone else for that matter for being in her life. Like you said, it’s hard to believe they’ll be able to explore all that in the time we have left, but it seems like they would like to try. I figure, meh, let’s see them try seeing that not many shows try at all.

Blade.Man.E16.141106.HDTV.H264.720p-LIMO[12-32-56]

Zombie: You make a good point and I can’t argue with it so I guess the only thing we can do is sit back and see what happens next. It’ll be interesting to see where these characters go in the few episodes remaining and I can only hope that at the end of it all, we’re not sorely disappointed because that would just suck.

So tell us, what did you think of this week’s episode? Are you disappointed in the way Se Dong seems to be giving up on Hong Bin? Are you okay with the way things seem to be going between Hong Bin and Tae Hee? Were you as disappointed that Tae Hee didn’t disappear as we are? Do you have any theories on Madame Yoon? Did you enjoy Hong Bin’s confession to Secretary Ko? You know how much we love to hear from you so be sure to let us know what you’re thinking by leaving us a comment below!

  1. Breaking up a family is nothing to be taken lightly. Especially when it means pushing a terminally ill woman aside to die all alone in order to gain the man of your dreams. That’s a heaping helping of guilt with a side of heartless. Se Dong loves and values family too much to do that, and I can’t blame her. If she leaves Hong Bin, she won’t be alone – she has her dwarves. If she stays, Tae Hee will have nothing. It sounds mean, but the best way out of this dilemma is for Tae Hee to hurry up and die. LOL

I read that the season is being cut short to 18 episodes instead of the originally scheduled 20. I hope they dont skimp on the ending if this is really our last week with this drama.
