I know it’s only been a little over a year since SHINee last made a group appearance on SNL Korea which means this isn’t much of a throwback but really, who cares? If it gives me a chance to laugh until I cry and squeal over SHINee all at the same time, I’m all for it!
So I was wandering my way through YouTube, as I often do, and I stumbled across the opening clip from SHINee’s appearance on SNL last year. It was filmed during their Odd promotions and just being able to sit here and swoon over Onew’s contacts and Key’s hair and Minho, Jonghyun and Taemin’s lovely arms was enough to convince me that this #TBT needed to happen. Well, that and the fact that I couldn’t stop laughing. Seriously, even as scripted as this opening so obviously was, it still made me laugh so, so much!
I suppose it’s only fair to admit that a part of me loves this clip so much simply because while watching it, I get to hear Key say my name. (Which probably proves my level of fangirliness is way beyond the bounds or reasonable but we already knew that.) In my defense, I really do know that he’s not actually referring to me but that doesn’t mean I can’t enjoy the moment when it comes. I mean how often do you get to hear any idol say your name in a day? Or a lifetime, for that matter?
Beyond my moment of personal fangirl silliness, there’s really a whole lot to love about SHINee’s appearances on SNL; not just as a group but as individuals as well. Every sketch has me laughing so hard I cry and, of course, once I start watching any of these SNL clips I have to watch them all. Even when I only plan on watching one, I end up wasting an entire morning watching them all. Which again, my prove my level of fangirliness or it may just prove that I need a little more laughter in my life.
Either way, you can’t deny that any time SHINee makes an appearance on SNL, it’s a whole lotta fun. It really doesn’t matter how many times I watch these sketches, they never get old. Which, I suppose, is really the beauty of SHINee. They’re one of those groups that, no matter what they do, they’re timeless.
That being said, they’ve made countless appearances on countless shows over the past eight years, which means we’ve lots of fantastic moments we can enjoy over and over again. What I’d like to know is, which of those moments are your favorites? Let me know in the comments below!
