SIX REASONS YOU SHOULD BE HAPPY VIXX IS COMING TO KCON 2014

As many of you already know, VIXX is headed to L.A. in just a few short weeks, to participate in KCON, North America’s largest convention dedicated to “All Things Hallyu” and to celebrate, I’ve decided to share with you six reasons why you should be just as happy about VIXX’s appearance as I.

1. N’s Sidelong Glance

hyde

It’s no secret that N is the master of the sidelong glance and while it’s one thing to experience this lethal look through the wonders of YouTube, it’s quite another thing to experience this look in real life. The very idea of seeing it in person is enough to make even the most phlegmatic fangirl weak in the knees (or maybe that’s just me…) so seeing it in real-life may actually prove fatal but I’m sure every Starlight would agree, it’s a risk we’re willing to take.

2. Hongbin’s Dimples

hongbin's dimples

It is a fact, universally acknowledged, that dimples are adorable and those lucky enough to possess them are immediately irresistible to those around them. That being the case, it stands to reason that when a member of a K-Pop band is not only unimaginably good-looking but also possesses the world’s most swoon worthy dimples, it’s hard to believe that person is real which is why, in the case of Hongbin, seeing will be believing. Only after seeing Hongbin in person will I be able to accept that such perfection does, in fact, exist and I may never be the same again…

(And for those of you who might be wondering who’s in this video with Hongbin, it’s B1A4’s Gongchan who, coincidentally, will also be at KCON. Hooray!)

3. Leo Embarrassed

leo bites his lip

Known as the cold, chic member of the group, Leo has a tendency to come across a bit strong (especially when he’s giving one of his band-mates one of his death stares) but there’s another side to Leo that is so ridiculously adorable, you can’t help but love him. And what is this adorable side, you ask. Well, aside from the fact that he loves children and animals and every time he cuddles one or the other you find yourself melting into a puddle of fangirl goo, there’s the fact that Leo gets incredibly embarrassed on-stage and his entire tough-guy persona dissolves in seconds. While there may not be a chance to watch Leo cuddle babies during KCON there’s a good chance we’ll be able to see him try to hide behind a fellow band member after saying something that he finds embarrassing and that, my friends, will be worth the price of admission, right there! (That and the fact he has the voice of an angel…)

4. Ravi’s Voice

RAVI ETERNITY

We all know Ravi is the rapper of the group and as such, you may have overlooked the fact that Ravi has an amazing voice and I’m not talking about just when he’s performing. Deep, rich and soothing, Ravi’s voice is one that you could listen to for hours as you let the world dissolve into nothingness around you which might be just what you need at KCON, especially if you’re stuck next to one of those people who constantly jumps on your toes during the concerts and never bothers to apologize. Just remember to focus on Ravi’s voice and breathe (if that’s even possible with VIXX on-stage).

5. Ken’s Dorkiness

ottokaji

When it comes to loveable dorks, Ken has to be the master. There’s something irresistibly adorable about the way Ken can combine his aegyo and his dorkiness to make you think he’s a total goob and then turn around and knock you off your feet with his incredible voice. With such a unique combination of character and talent, you can be sure Ken is going to make you laugh and probably steal your heart, all at the same time.

(And now you’ll probably never be able to hear the word “ottokaji” without singing this song.)

6. Hyuk’s Amazing Transformation

hyuk

Hyuk may be the maknae of the group but that doesn’t mean he’s a baby. On the contrary, in the past two years Hyuk has managed to transform from adorable high school student to one of the manliest maknae’s you’ve ever seen. How did he pull off this amazing transformation? I have no idea but perhaps if we see him in person, we can unravel this mystery together…

Of course it goes without saying that, more than anything, the reason you should be looking forward to seeing VIXX at KCON is because they’re an incredibly talented group who are sure to deliver a fantastic performance but it’s fun to come up with other reasons, just because I can. Naturally, now that I’ve shared six reasons why you should be looking forward to seeing VIXX at KCON, I want to hear yours. What are you most looking forward to seeing in person? Which songs would you like to see them perform? Which member is your favorite? I want to know it all so be sure to leave me a comment below! (Oh, and if you’re headed to KCON, I’ll see you there! 19 days and counting!!!)

CALLING ALL KCON BOUND ST☆RLIGHTS!!!

starlight meetup

As many of you already know, North America’s largest Hallyu dedicated convention, KCON, is fast approaching but what you may not know is that a number of St☆rlights have expressed an interest in organizing a meetup during the convention. After all, what better place to meet up and squee over our beloved VIXX than at a convention dedicated solely to all things Hallyu?

group shot for okdalIn an attempt to make this St☆rlight meetup a reality, VIXX Galaxy‘s founder Kate has agreed to officially sponsor this event so all we, as KCON bound St☆rlights, have to do is come up with a brilliant idea to make this happen. How, you might ask? Well, by brainstorming, of course! All we’re asking is that you help us come up with ideas on when, where and how to make this meetup more than just a dream. gr8u groupYou can share your ideas here by leaving a comment below or by logging into VIXX Galaxy and leaving your ideas in the KCON 2014 Starlight Meetup Forum. MUSINGS OF A K-POP FANGIRL: When Dreams Come True

Farewell BABYz 3We all know that being a K-pop fangirl isn’t easy, especially when you happen to be one of the unlucky ones who happens to live half a world away from your beloved idols. We all know the sacrifices we’ve made, skipping sleep to vote for our bias groups as they make their comeback appearances on various music shows… The ridicule we’ve had to endure as those around us scoff at our undying love for a genera of music that makes no sense to them because “you can’t understand the words…”  And the agony we live with, knowing that we’ll probably go our entire lives without ever meeting any of our idols in person…  See? Being a K-pop fangirl is rough but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t come with its own set of rewards.

MUSINGS OF A K-POP FANGIRL: St☆rlight, Star Bright

superheroIt’s no secret I’m a fan of pretty much every K-Pop group out there. Yes, it’s true I love some a little more than others but in general, I can’t devote myself to one single band because there are just too many deserving of my love. That being said, there are times when I find myself pulled toward one band a little more than others. This happened first, with CNBLUE, then with G-Dragon and BIG BANG, and so-on. While I honestly love each and every one of these “special” artists just as much as I did during my obsessive phase, a new band has recently found its way into that special place in my heart and that band is VIXX.

group shot for okdal

Now before you get all huffy on me, telling me that they’re nothing new let me just say that yes, I know. I’m very well aware that VIXX has been around for almost two years. I also know that they’ve made multiple comebacks, collaborated with various artists and even won several impressive awards since their debut but that doesn’t mean I can’t love them more now than I did when I first learned of them, however long ago that was.

Ken

The truth of the matter is, it’s only been somewhat recently that I’ve stumbled upon the countless hours of VIXX videos on YouTube and it’s only been since then that my love for them has grown from placid musical respect to full-on fangirl obsession. I can’t help it. From the very first episode of VIXX TV, I’ve been completely addicted to watching these six adorable boys entertain us with their charm, wit and goofball moments as they’ve allowed us quick glimpses into their daily lives and to be perfectly honest, I can’t get enough! Waiting for new episodes of VIXX TV has become as Nexcruciatingly painful as waiting for the next episode of Bride of the Century to air. I spend every Tuesday morning continuously checking my phone to see if the newest episode is up, just so I can be one of the first to watch it. If that weren’t bad enough, every moment of my free time has been consumed with watching episodes of VIXX’s MTV Diary and the like and I’ve seen every single one of their music videos so many times, I can replay them in my sleep.

Hyuk hydeIt’s at this point that most people would probably step back and admit they’ve got an addiction problem but not me. No, as a fangirl I thrive on my addiction to K-pop, it’s what keeps me going precious little can. With “Voodoo Doll” blasting in the background, I scour the internet for pictures and videos of the six adorable members of VIXX, hoping to find that one shot of Hongbin’s dimples or Leo’s smile that will get me through my otherwise dreary day. Because that’s what life as a Kpop Fangirl is all about. We thrive on those brief glimpses of our biases in our Twitter timeline, on teasers of our biases next comeback, on their reality shows hongbin's dimplesand interviews, on their social media accounts and fan-cafés because this is how we connect with them. This is how they become real to us and how we come to love them so, especially for those of us who are forced to live half a world apart from our endless list of biases. And for the record, this love of K-pop isn’t just another “phase” or some “passing craze.” Oh no. It’s become a lifestyle and one that I have no intention of ever letting go.

lovely leoWhile being a K-pop fangirl isn’t always easy (especially when no one else in your world understands your obsession) it helps to know that, despite how it may feel at times, you’re actually not alone in your K-pop love. No matter where you are, there’s always someone else out there in the world, just as eager to fangirl spazz over your biases latest YouTube video as you are, and all you have to do is reachRavi out and say hello. So this is my official “Hello” to all of my fellow St☆rlights! It’s been lovely meeting so many of you on Twitter and I hope to meet even more in the future, as we get make time to together and share the love we have for our beloved N, Leo, Ken, Ravi, Hongbin and Hyuk. If you ever find me out there in the social media universe, please don’t hesitate to stop and say hello; I’m always willing to drop whatever it is I’m doing to fangirl spazz over Leo VIXX for a minute or two. 🙂
