WHEN KCON CALLS THE ZOMBIE ANSWERS: MY ADVENTURES IN LA – DAY 3

GOT7 1

Once again I found myself awake and some ungodly hour but rather than spend the next couple of hours drooling over the pretty posters I was surrounded by, I decided it’d be better for me to just get up and get ready for the day. Knowing I was going to be speaking in front of who knows how many people in a matter of hours, I spent a rather embarrassing amount of time trying to pull a miraculously fabulous outfit out of my suitcase. I failed on the fabulous but I did managed to put something together that met with the approval of my “stylists.” (Aka my group of Chicago friends who remind me, on an almost daily basis, that I’m not nearly as hideous as I believe I am… Oh, what would I do without them?) With an outfit agreed upon I got myself put together in a reasonable amount of time, as did everyone else in the house, and before I knew it, we were off! Headed for downtown L.A. and the first official day of KCON. Woohoo! Continue reading “WHEN KCON CALLS THE ZOMBIE ANSWERS: MY ADVENTURES IN LA – DAY 3”

Who knew Tic Tacs could be so amusing?

The worst part of being in California is running on Central Time the entire time I was there. Waking up to find it isn’t even 06:00 yet is rather depressing but I expected as much; I did the same thing the last time I was in LA, I just didn’t go strolling along the beach this time… *sigh* Continue reading “WHEN KCON CALLS THE ZOMBIE ANSWERS: MY ADVENTURES IN LA – DAY 2”

It’s hard to believe a week ago I was surrounded by tens of thousands of Hallyu loving fans from around the world, all gathered together to celebrate one epic weekend of awesome, but I was. (Talk about having your mind blown!) In an effort to keep this most epic of weekends from being lost in the depths of my decaying zombie brain, I’m sitting here, ready to document my adventures. I’m not sure how well I’m gonna survive this (the feelings are still a bit intense) but I’ll do my best. Are we ready for this? Then let’s go! SUNSHINE AND RAINBOW PONIES

Today I was nominated by my lovely friend, Sue (aka MamaFangirl) for the Sunshine Award and suddenly my rather blah day was filled with sunshine and rainbow ponies. (Don’t you just love it when your friends turn your rather ordinary days into something special?) For those of you unfamiliar with The Sunshine Award, it’s given to bloggers who are positive, inspiring and spread a little sunshine with their blogs. I’m not really sure I qualify as inspiring but I do enjoy sharing my love of all things Hallyu and I’d like to think that at least with that, I can spread a little sunshine. FROM CHICAGO TO KCON: ZOMBIE’S ADVENTURES IN L.A. – DAY 7

KCON 2014 5444

KCON 2014 102The last day of my trip was by far the most un-adventurous of the week. I woke up, finished packing and very reluctantly Tanya and I checked out of our hotel and trudged across the parking lot to the car in the most unenthusiastic way imaginable. I don’t think either one of us were ready to admit our adventures were coming to an end and I know for a fact that neither one of us wanted to say goodbye. KCON 2014 089Trying not to think of our impending separation, we loaded up our stuff and headed for the airport, trying our best to make light of the fact that once we got there our adventures together would be over and neither one of us had any idea when we’d actually see each other again. (Can I just say that it really sucks to have your BFF living on the OTHER SIDE OF THE COUNTRY? Yes. It does.) Continue reading “FROM CHICAGO TO KCON: ZOMBIE’S ADVENTURES IN L.A. – DAY 7”

KCON 2014 9724

One would think that after spending an entire weekend running around KCON like a mad-woman, I’d be exhausted enough to sleep for more than a couple of hours but no. KCON 2014 9728Running two hours ahead was a curse I bore my entire time in L.A. and even on my last full day in the City of Angels, I was up by six with nothing to do but channel my inner ninja and get ready as quietly as possible (so as not to wake the comatose Tanya) before sneaking down to the lobby to check in with my family and wish my eldest a happy birthday. (Which I totally missed because I’m a bad mom who runs off to L.A. for a week instead of staying home to celebrate a birthday with my baby. At least she still loves me, even if I occasionally fail at being a mom.) Once the family was reassured I was still alive and I’d wished my baby a happy birthday, I figured it was about time for Tanya to be up so I grabbed us a couple of cups of coffee and headed back upstairs to see what plans we had for the day. FROM CHICAGO TO KCON: ZOMBIE’S ADVENTURES IN L.A. – DAY 5

KCON 2014 7215

Saturday must have worn me out more than even I realized because I slept until 7:30 Sunday morning (a new record, I know). It felt glorious to sleep so long and I woke up in a near panic because I got irrationally freaked out about getting to the Sports Arena late and I’d miss my chance to be one of the VIP guests for the Danny From L.A. taping. (Which I still can’t believe I won because I never win anything! Ever.) Thankfully taking a deep breath in and pausing a moment to fully wake up was all it took to clear my head and bring me back to my more rational self. Of course not having a cosplay costume to wear on Sunday did send me into another tizzy as I frantically dug through all of the clothes both Tanya and I brought with, desperately trying to find something to wear that didn’t make me look old, fat or stupid. (A task I struggle with on a daily basis.) With Tanya’s help I did finally settle on something, which involved a skirt, of all things, and I totally blame Tanya for that. I can’t remember the last time I voluntarily wore a skirt anywhere… They don’t usually match my boho indie rock style (which is how Tanya describes my… um… unique… taste in fashion). KCON 2014 4430

KCON 2014 1209Saturday. D-Day. KCON Day 1. Whatever you want to call it, I woke up the next morning with a stomach full of butterflies, more nervous than I had ever been before in my entire life. Looking back, I’m not even sure why I was such a nervous wreck but I was. I think it had a lot to do with the fact that I had psyched myself out so much over KCON that I was afraid I was going to be disappointed at the end of it all. (Thank goodness I was totally wrong on that score!) Too nervous to eat, drink, or do pretty much anything else, I got up, donned my VIXX G.R.8.U. cosplay costume (with all the checkers) and spent a ridiculous amount of time trying to figure out what to do with my hair. (Which ended up being not much because my hands were too shaky to handle anything but the most basic tasks.) At least I wasn’t alone in my suffering, Tanya was every bit as jittery as I was and we were in such an awful state that we rushed out of the hotel without grabbing breakfast or (gasp!) even coffee. (A mistake we would come to regret all. day. long.) Continue reading “FROM CHICAGO TO KCON: ZOMBIE’S ADVENTURES IN L.A. – DAY 4”
