K-POP ATE HER BRAIN: HIGH4 and Lim Kim Get “A Little Close”

HIGH4

You know, sometimes you stumble across a song that speaks to your current mood and/or soothes your troubled soul and today I found one that did both, HIGH4’s brand new collaboration with Lim Kim, “A Little Close”.

alexA smooth, slightly jazzy R&B track, “A Little Close” is one of those songs that’s like honey for the ears. It’s such a sweet and oh-so-easy song to listen to that before you now it, you find yourself almost floating away on a little cloud of K-Pop heaven and that, my friends, is a wonderful thing indeed. (Especially if you’ve been fighting off a cold for almost a week and have spent most of that time feeling like your head was going to explode. Just saying…)yim young jun

You might recognize HIGH4 from their earlier collaboration with IU, that sweet little ditty “Not Spring, Love or Cherry Blossoms” but honestly, I like “A Little Close” better. I don’t know if I’m just in the mood to be soothed and wooed or what, but I like the more manly concept of HIGH4 in “A Little Close” and Lim Kim’s voice adds just the right balance of smooth and sultry to put this song over the top.baek myung han

If you’ve enjoyed HIGH4’s collaborative works so far and you’re wondering where you can get their album, have no fear, it’s on its way! At the end of the”A Little Close” video, HIGH4 promises the release of their first mini album sometime in August. kim sung guPersonally I’m hoping their album comes out on the first but we all know that the world of K-Pop loves to tease fans ruthlessly before releasing anything so I’m afraid we’re just going to have to wait and see when HIGH4 makes their big debut. Until then, I’m off to listen to “A Little Close” another couple hundred times and try to see if I can’t get this stupid cold to float away on a little K-Pop cloud of its own.

So tell me, what do you think of HIGH4 and Lim Kim’s collaboration? Do you like it? Do you hate it? I’m always interested in hearing your thoughts so be sure to leave me a comment below!

  1. I was surprised by How much I enjoyed the music when my son showed me the mv this week. Lin Kim’s voice was a nice change from what I typically expect to hear in a pop video, and it worked well with the boys. I think her hairdresser didn’t do her any favors with the uncombed mop on her head, but it’s probably just another way for her to distinguish herself from the cookie cutter mold of female Korean idols.

Alex’s oddly blue eyebrows were a bit distracting, but thankfully didn’t appear all that often. Baek Myung Han’s voice is amazing, and these boys are really cute. If you look up “high 4’s next top muse” on YouTube, you’ll see how cute Alex was tweeting American artists to work with them. We were cracking up watching it.

Overall it is a nice jazzy number. The video didn’t add a whole lot to the song, in my opinion, but I’ll gladly download the tune and add it to my playlist.

    1. Omo! The boys of HIGH4 are so adorable! I had to go watch their “Next Top Muse” as soon as I ready your suggestion and they’re just too cute! Of course now I’m completely hooked and am going to have to watch the rest of the episodes but that’s okay. Haha!

Like you, I wasn’t really wowed by the music video, it’s just kind of there but it does showcase the boys and helps us put a face with a name which, I think, was the point. With the release of their first mini album approaching, I’m sure HIGH4 is trying to get as much exposure as possible and I’m okay with that. I’m looking forward to seeing what these boys can do without a muse and I hope that with the release of their album, we’ll get a video that showcases them as a group. Having a muse is wonderful and all but at some point they’re going to have to show us what they can do on their own.
