With today being Valentine’s Day, I spent an awful lot of time wondering whether I should cater this post to the romantic readers who embrace this day of love or to those who wish February 14 would disappear from the calendar forever. It’s been a difficult decision but in the end, I decided that either way, I’d be upsetting someone so I decided I’d just stop worrying and pick a drama that was so good you wouldn’t care what day of the year it was.
There are only a handful of dramas that are so good you forget about the world around you and MBC’s hit drama of 2007 Coffee Prince is one of them. Starring Yoon Eun Hye, Gong Yoo, Lee Sun Gyun and Chae Jung Ahn, Coffee Prince is the story of Han Kyul (Goon Yoo), the third-generation son of a wealthy hotelier family who has no interest in anything remotely related to a job or shouldering responsibility and the 24-year-old tomboy, Go Eun Chan (Yoon Eun Hye) whom he mistakenly hires as his temporary gay lover, to help him escape his family’s pressures to get married and settle down. What follows is a cute and touching story of hard work, friendship and unconditional love.
If you’re new to K-dramas, Coffee Prince is one you’re definitely going to want to watch and if you’re a K-drama veteran, well, you know that Coffee Prince is certainly worthy of another watch. So whether you’re celebrating Valentine’s Day this weekend or not, Coffee Prince is the perfect drama to marathon this weekend, so grab your blanket, your box of chocolates and your snuggle buddy, if you have one, and lose yourself in the world of mistaken identities and true love, otherwise known as Coffee Prince.
