This week’s drama had me rolling on the floor, laughing my head off as tears streamed down my face, it was literally that funny. I honestly can’t remember the last time a drama cracked me up so much which is why I’m recommending After School: Lucky or Not, Season 1 as this weekend’s drama to marathon.
Originally airing on SNS in September 2014, After School: Lucky or Not follows the story of Kim So Eun, a quiet, unassuming high school girl who receives a mysterious invitation to join the “Lucky or Not Club.” Curious, So Eun goes to check out the club and find herself immediately surrounded by five flower boys (played by 5urprise) who immediately declare her their new club leader. Not really sure what to think, So Eun soon finds herself caught up in the boys’ adventures as they set out to complete 100 random and sometimes outrageous missions before the semester ends.
Never, in all my life, have I laughed so much while watching a drama, as I laughed with this one. It is, without a doubt, the most hilarious show I have ever watched though I’ll be the first to admit that the first couple of episodes had me wondering what the heck I’d just gotten myself into. Random, ridiculous and juvenile, the humor in this drama fits the setting perfectly as the entire time I watched it, I felt like I was back in high school, surrounded by… Well… Teenage boys. I guess I should warn you, before you start watching this one, that if immature teenage boy humor isn’t your thing, you’re probably going to find this drama nothing short of stupid but if you can laugh at boys trying to light their flatulence on fire, you’re going to love this.
I guess that’s one of the reasons why I love this drama so much, because it’s such a break from the dreary and mundane of everyday life. It’s just one of those dramas you watch with all your guards down which is probably why when the serious moments of this drama hit, they hit hard. And this would the another one of the reasons why I love this one so much… Because behind all of the silly and the goofy and the ridiculous, there’s a whole lot of sweet and quite a bit of sad and basically just a whole lot of messing with my feels. (In the best way possible, of course.)
I will admit that this drama wouldn’t be nearly as wonderful if the five boys of the “Lucky of Not Club” hadn’t been played by the members of 5urprise. Being the K-Pop fangirl that I am, I can’t help but love a drama that stars idols, especially when those idols do such a fabulous job acting. Yoo Il, Seo Kang Joon, Gong Myung, Kang Tae Poong (Kang Tae Oh) and Han Jae Hee (Lee Tae Hwan) are some of the most lovable dorks you will ever find on-screen and I fell in love with each and every one of them. Well, maybe I fell for one a little harder than the others but hey, picking a bias is what fangirls do best. (Or maybe that’s just what I do best…)
If the stress of life has you feeling a bit down or if you’re just looking for a bit of lighthearted fun, you can’t go wrong with After School: Lucky or Not, it’s hilarious, it’s ridiculous, it’s full of gorgeous flower boys and behind all the fluff and insanity, there’s a story that will tug on your emotions and warm your heart. Like Mary Poppins, it’s practically perfect in every way and I absolutely love it!
So tell me, what do you think of After School: Lucky or Not? Did you find it as entertaining and fun as I did or not so much? I always love hearing from you so let me know what you’re thinking by leaving a comment below!
Oh my goodness! I was skeptical at first, but before long I was laughing out loud and my teenage daughter had joined me on the couch. We marathoned the drama. It was a little like watching a car crash – you wanted to, but you just couldn’t look away!! The brainy one was the second lead in Pride and Prejudice. Don’t let this drama have you underestimating his skills. He was terrific in P&P. Thanks for the recommendation.
Yay! I’m so glad you enjoyed this one! Wasn’t it a hoot? It’s one of those dramas that you’re like, “I know I shouldn’t be laughing at this but I just can’t help myself.” It was such a break from the norm which is probably why I loved it so much. It’s just a whole lot of fun.
I just finished watching “Dream Knights” with GOT7. It’s a little like this one in that you have a bunch of adorable idols and only 12 short episodes. It had some obvious plot holes, one TERRIBLE kiss scene (Park Shin Hye may have met her match), and JB and Junior were clearly the only ones who had acted before, BUT there were a lot of cute and funny moment mixed in with the sad ones and it was quick to watch the whole thing. Besides, those GOT7 boys are so darn cute! How can you not smile?
I’ve been watching Dream Knight as well and I absolutely love it! I know it’s not the best short series ever but how can you not love anything that allows you to squee over the boys of GOT7 on a regular basis? (Okay, so I squee over them on a daily basis anyway but still… That’s beside the point.) I haven’t had a chance to finish the series yet (dang move!) but it’s on my list of things to do. Maybe I can take a break long enough to finish this one. Like you said, it’s super short and I could use a nice break. 😉
