CHRISTMAS TUNES THAT ROCK: August Burns Red Presents: Sleddin’ Hill, A Holiday Album

With Christmas only days away, I figured I still had time to sneak on more holiday album review in here before the big day. Last week I told you to check out my favorite Christmas album, Family Force 5’s holiday gem, “Christmas Pageant,” this week, I’m here to rave about my second favorite Christmas album, August Burns Red’s fifth studio album and only Christmas album, “Sleddin’ Hill.”

christmas treeOnce again I’m a little behind on the times, as “Sleddin’ Hill” was originally released in October of 2012, but I’m telling myself it doesn’t matter since Christmas music is timeless.  If Family Force 5’s album was one to dance to, August Burns Red’s “Sleddin’ Hill” is the album to rock out to; it’s a fantastic combination of melodic metalcore and Christmas cheer that’s sure to please all but the Scroogiest of family members.

If you’re tired of the same-old renditions of all your once-favorite Christmas songs, I suggest you give August Burns Red a try. Classics concertlike “Jingle Bells,” “Frosty the Snowman,” “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer,”  “Winter Wonderland” and “We Wish You a Merry Christmas” are given new life but I have to say, my absolute favorites are “O Holy Night” and “Carol of the Bells.” There’s just something so right about head-banging to two of your all-time favorite Christmas songs…it really is a bit of Christmas magic. If, like me, you think “rockin’ around the Christmas tree” should be taken literally, August Burns Red’s “Sleddin’ Hill” is one addition to your Christmas playlist you’re going to wonder how you ever lived without. HAPPY CHRISTMAS!
