ZOMBIE’S T-DRAMA REVIEW: Someone Like You Episode 20

sailing to happiness

Well my friends, the end of this twenty week trip of crazy has finally come to the end and I don’t know if it’s because of my recent head injury or if I’ve finally come to some Zen-like state of mind but I somehow managed to watch this final episode without blowing anything up. Yes, it was hard. Yes, there were moments when I wanted to scream but I decided it would be much better for my health to become a duck and just let everything roll off my back like water. That being said, we still have much to discuss so let’s get to it. Continue reading “ZOMBIE’S T-DRAMA REVIEW: Someone Like You Episode 20”

ZOMBIE’S DRAMA REVIEW: Sensory Couple Episode 15-16

wedding

I don’t know how this ending managed to sneak up on me but it did and I have to say, as far as endings go, this one was pretty good. It’s never fun to say goodbye to a drama you’ve been enjoying but at least this one left us with a satisfying sense of closure. Of course before we say goodbye, we have two rather exciting episodes to talk about so let’s get to it! Continue reading “ZOMBIE’S DRAMA REVIEW: Sensory Couple Episode 15-16”

TUNE OF THE WEEK: HISTORY “Might Just Die”

Just Might Die 1

2You know, when you’ve got a ton of good music released all in the same week, picking a Tune of the Week becomes insanely difficult. That being said, I had a really hard time choosing this week’s Tune but after spending a bit too much time watching videos (and with a little help from my friends), I was finally able to narrow my list of favorites down to three and from there it didn’t take much to convince me that HISTORY’s “Might Just Die” deserves the title of Tune of the Week. ZOMBIE’S T-DRAMA REVIEW: Someone Like You Episode 19

pity party

You know, there’s really only one thing I want to do after watching this week’s episode and that is to SCREAM MY FLIPPING HEAD OFF! Seriously, this show has me so unbelievably upset I want to go on a full-on Godzilla-inspired rampage around my living room. And why am I this upset when we only have one episode of this drama left? Well, let’s talk about this episode and see if we can’t figure this out. Shall we? Continue reading “ZOMBIE’S T-DRAMA REVIEW: Someone Like You Episode 19”

ZOMBIE’S DRAMA REVIEW: Producer Episodes 1-2

this look says it all

After what feels like an eternity of waiting for the star-studded new drama, Producer, to air, I was both excited and a little nervous to start watching this one. I have a tendency to set my hopes a little too high for some dramas but I’m happy to say, my expectations for this one have, at least in these first two episodes, have been met with a reasonable amount of satisfaction. It’s far too early to declare this the best drama ever but it certainly holds the potential to be something great and I’m really looking forward to seeing where this one goes. ZOMBIE’S DRAMA REVIEW: Sensory Couple Episodes 13-14

you and me

Oh dear gracious! If there’s one thing this show knows how to do, and do well, is how to keep me on the edge of my seat! Things have certainly picked up and I can’t say I’m handling this new level of suspense very well. (There may have been a couple of ugly strings of profanity shouted at my computer as I watched…) On the bright side, being stressed out of my mind means we’ve got a lot to talk about so let’s get to it! EXPLORING CHICAGO’S KOREAN SIDE: The K-Pop Store of Chinatown

2342

With all the attention Chicago has been getting on the K-Pop concert scene recently, I thought it might be kinda fun to start introducing my fellow fans to the wonderful Korean side of this fair city. 2319This way, when fans from out-of-town flock to the city for a concert, they can find places to indulge their taste for Korean culture and fill their bellies with all manner of delicious Korean food. (Because what self-respecting K-Pop fan doesn’t crave a steaming plate of ddeokbokki or a refreshing bowl of bingsu every now and then?) I thought it seemed only fitting to begin this new segment of mine with the sort of K-Pop mecca of Chicago. The one place every K-Pop fan who visits the City has to visit at least once (if not twice, or even thrice) while they’re here. The one… The only… THE K-POP STORE!

Located in the heart of Chicago’s Chinatown, the K-Pop Store is every K-Pop fan’s dream come true. 2311Overflowing with all manner of K-Pop goodness, this store is the place to go, whether you’re looking for your bias group’s latest album, or a pair of socks that bears your ulti’s face. From lightsticks to face masks, snapbacks to hoodies, jewelry, coffee mugs, posters, backpacks, pillows, nail art, cosmetics, drama OSTs and of course, albums, this store has it all and it’s wonderful! 2336I do have to warn you though, once you step foot through the front door, the urge to buy one of everything is VERY real! For those of you visiting from out-of-town, I recommend you either come with the entire contents of your savings account in your pocket or an iron will. Either one will help you, though I’ll tell you from experience, that iron will tends to corrode pretty quickly when you’re drooling over your biases.

2315I highly recommend allowing yourself plenty of time to wander around the store. There really is a lot of merch available and you don’t want to feel rushed as you browse. From front to back, floor to ceiling, this store is overflowing with all manner of K-Pop goodness and you’re definitely going to want to see it all. 2333While you’re browsing, be sure to take the time to talk to stop and talk to the shop’s owner, Ms. Ko. She’s a fount of K-Pop knowledge and is hands down, one of the sweetest people you will ever meet.

Chinatown ParkingIf you’re relying on public transportation to get you around the City, you can take the Red Line to Cermak. From there, all you’ve got to do cross Cermak and head about a block south on Wentworth and you’re there. If you’re driving to Chinatown, street parking is available but finding a place is tricky at best. You’d probably fare better if you parked in one of the public parking lots. 2332There’s a good one on the north-east corner of Cermak and Wentworth, right by the Red Line stop, and it’s a whole heck of a lot cheaper than a lot of the other downtown parking garages but it’s still not a cheap as street parking. If you’re lucky enough to score a parking spot on the street, I will warn you, those spots are strictly metered so be sure to keep track of your time. You don’t want to come crashing down from your K-Pop high by finding a $50 parking ticket stuck to your windshield. *ahem*

2338K-Pop Store

The building itself is pretty easy to find, sandwiched between the Chinatown Bazaar and the May Flower Restaurant. The bright pink “K-POP K-POP K-POP” running across the storefront does a good job of making the building stand out and you can’t miss all the band posters hung in the windows, tempting you to come… shop… buy…

2331If you’re coming to Chicago for a K-Pop concert, you can’t consider your trip complete without visiting Ms. Ko’s store. It’s a fantastic shop and one of my most favorite places to spend a lazy afternoon, though my wallet usually goes home in tears.

If you’d like more information about Chicago’s Chinatown K-Pop Store, be sure to check out their Facebook Page. You could also leave any questions you may have in the comments below and I’ll do my best to help you out.

TUNE OF THE WEEK: Kim Sung Kyu and Monsta X

collage 1

You know, some days it’s really ridiculously difficult to pick just one song to be my Tune of the Week which is why, this week, I’ve chosen two different songs to feature. Why two, you may ask? Because I’ve been deliberating between these two for so stinking long, without coming to any sort of conclusion, and I’ve got more to do today than sit here and agonize over the fact I can only pick one! It’s my website, darn it! I can do what I want! So… This week’s I’m featuring both Sung Kyu’s “Kontrol” and Monsta X’s “Trespass” as my Tunes of the Week.
